I loved to dunk on self-help books, but after reading a few of them over the past couple years, I've enjoyed the little bursts of motivation that give me an illusion of control over my own life
Definitely! Whenever I've been really low, self help books have helped me get out of a rut. Now I'm avoiding them because they've kinda become a crutch. But will definitely pick one up if I get into a funk again (Hopefully not anytime soon)!
To the point! I think it is the cheap dopamine you get when you read a self help book that you are solving the problem of your life when in reality it is not.
What an interesting analogy! Love it.
A great, unconventional take on self-help books. Thanks for sharing
